The Rainbow Bridge

Findley 2014 - 2016

One of the sweetest dogs I've known crossed the bridge yesterday. He started suffering seizures a couple of months ago and was on medication, which didn't stop them, but somewhat controlled the frequency. Until yesterday.

He had his first seizure around 11:30 a.m. He had 2 more while I was home for lunch. I gave him a shot of valium and his dose of meds. I thought they had stopped. As soon as I returned to work, they started again. By the time we got to the vet he was up to 10 seizures and had another in the office. He was unconscious and not coming out of them this time. The determination was probable brain tumor, so I had to let him go to stop his suffering. Gus is wandering around looking for his friend. We are sad.

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Oh Roan, I am so sorry. I have a Gus of my own (who looks very similar to your Findley) and I'm conscious that he is getting older and slowing down. I can't imagine how hard it would be to have to let him go. Dogs are so much more than pets, they are family. x

Beautiful tribute to your beautiful friend. My heart goes out to you. We lost our fun-loving Charlie to seizures, too, so we know your pain. Blessings, Dear.

There is nothing sadder than losing a beloved pet ... so sorry. Soon your wonderful memories of him will take over and you will feel the joy of his presence again.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I still miss all the animals we've had over the years. They're all such different personalities.
